My Approach to Personal Growth & Counseling
I believe that for inner work to be the most effective, we must include
all of who we are – body, mind and spirit. My approach is
informed by many years of life experience and professional training
in holistic therapy.
In addition to traditional counseling skills, I have a variety
of methods to choose from based on what is most natural and effective
for you. Each method informs and supports the work from a different
direction.
- Focusing helps you contact and understand your bodily experience,
so that the relationship between mind and body can be natural
and complementary.
- Movement and Art Therapy provide a “language” for
those feelings and experiences that are either pre-verbal or can’t
be contained in words.
- Jungian dreamwork allows you to work with and understand the vital perspective of your dream world
- Gestalt “chair work” allows you to get to know your
inner critic in a way that is clarifying, empowering and freeing.
- Imagery can help you relax, and contact your inner wisdom and
spiritual resources.
- Mindfulness Meditation brings your awareness to the present
moment, and helps you learn that the past is exactly that –
old memories that have no present reality other than what you
give them.
- Gendlin's Philosophy of the Implicit, and Jungian and Gestalt theory provide the intellectual frame to
understand inner process.
The goals for the session are arrived at by mutual agreement. Once
clear on what you would like from the session, we work with your
direct experience through the above methods. This usually leads to
a deeper sense of satisfaction than if you just
talk about your problems.
