MY EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
I
have been exploring the uses of holistic, meditative and psychotherapeutic
tools for personal growth and healing since 1976. I began my professional
career as a massage therapist and health educator at Integral Health
Services, one of the first holistic health centers in New England.
At IHS, I learned a tremendous amount about the role of stress,
beliefs and emotional support in the healing process. Since then,
a holistic approach that includes body, mind and spirit has been
the only way that made sense to me.
In 1981, I co-founded the Connecticut Center for Massage Therapy
with Stephen Kitts. CCMT soon became a nationally renowned learning
center for massage therapists, and I served there as Co-Director
and Director of Education for many years. I also wanted to understand
the Western medical approach, so I completed the physical therapy
program at the University of Connecticut, and became licensed in
that field in 1983.
By 1990, my children had grown and left home and CCMT was running
more independently. I made the decision to leave my administrative
and teaching duties. I wanted to have more time for my own personal
growth and to follow my dream of working with people as a body-centered
psychotherapist, using all that I had learned in my own healing.
I completed my Masters degree at Antioch New England Graduate School
where I studied Dance/Movement Therapy and Counseling/Psychology.
I have had many years of post-graduate training and personal experience
in Gendlin Focusing, Body-Centered Gestalt Therapy, Jungian dream
work, Art Therapy, Mindfulness Meditation, Tai Chi and Yoga. I am
certified as a Focusing trainer through the Focusing Institute of
New York.
After seven years in private practice as a psychotherapist in Connecticut, my husband and I moved to California to be near one of our sons and his growing family. I now have a small private practice, offer training groups in Focusing, and have time to play with my grandchildren!
